Tax Administration Jamaica (TAJ) is reporting strong performance and growing public adoption of the Electronic Motor Vehicle Registration Certificate (eMVRC) system, six months after its implementation.

Since the introduction of the new system on July 21, 2025, TAJ has successfully processed and issued nearly 350,000 electronic motor vehicle registration certificates. Of this total, approximately 50,000 certificates, or 15 per cent, were processed online via the TAJ website at www.jamaicatax.gov.jm, reflecting increasing use of the organisation’s digital services by motorists.

The eMVRC system has significantly modernised the motor vehicle registration process by eliminating paper-based certificates and registration stickers/decals. Registration certificates are now issued entirely in electronic format, delivering enhanced convenience, efficiency, and security for customers. Once a registration is completed, motorists receive an email notification confirming that their electronic registration certificate has been issued.

Certificates may then be downloaded, printed, or securely saved from the Government of Jamaica’s digital services platform at cgds.gov.jm. The system also offers motorists greater flexibility with registration options available for six months, one year, or two years. TAJ is reminding motorists who selected the six-month option when the system was first introduced that their registration may now have expired or nearing expiration, and they are therefore encouraged to renew promptly.

TAJ further advises that the system is currently being enhanced to automatically issue email renewal reminder notifications to customers. TAJ continues to encourage owners of private motor vehicles to take advantage of the convenience of online renewal, joining the 18 per cent and growing number of motorists who now renew their motor vehicle registration certificates online, eliminating the need to visit a Tax Office.

Motorists renewing their registration online are reminded that they must have:

  • A valid fitness certificate
  • Valid motor vehicle insurance

Both documents are validated electronically through the databases of TAJ’s partner agencies. For motorists renewing their registration in-office at a Tax Office, the following are required:

  • Motor Vehicle Identification (MVID) number, plate number, last paper-based MVRC, or the most recent MVRC receipt issued by TAJ
  • A valid email address
  • Road licence (for PPV or CC plates)
  • A valid insurance certificate TAJ remains committed to continuously improving service delivery through digital transformation and thanks the public for their continued cooperation as the organisation advances more efficient, secure, and customer-focused solutions.

Reading Time: 3 minutesThe Cuban government has rejected accusations that it poses a threat to the security of the United States, insisting that it stands ready to cooperate with Washington.

The Cuban Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a statement on Monday, February 2, calling for dialogue and stressing that the Caribbean island does not support “terrorism”. The declaration comes amid a spike in tension after the abduction of Venezuelan leader Nicolas Maduro last month, which was part of President Donald Trump’s drive for US domination of the Western Hemisphere.
