American singer-songwriter Taylor Swift took to Twitter this morning (March 1), criticising a joke made at her expense on Netflix’s new ‘dramedy’ series, Ginny & Georgia.

“Hey Ginny & Georgia, 2010 called and it wants its lazy, deeply sexist joke back,” Swift wrote on Twitter.
“How about we stop degrading hard working women by defining this horse s— as FuNnY.”
The line “degrading” Swift’s personal life is uttered in the Season 1 finale of the show.
In the episode, a 16-year-old Ginny (played by Antonia Gentry) gets in a fight with her mother, Georgia (Brianne Howey) about relationships with men.
Ginny responded to her mother’s questions about her recent relationship with a dig at Swift saying: “What do you care? You go through men faster than Taylor Swift.”
While this remark may cause some to chuckle; there are those who considererd it as offensive to Swift and other women who opt to date freely rather than jump into relationships.
However, some in the Twittersphere said she needed to ‘lighten up.’

The “I Knew You Were Trouble” singer is known to draw musical inspiration from her personal life which regularly receives widespread media coverage.
The singer/songwriter has never shied away from talking about her relationships.
After all, no one really knows what happens behind closed doors.
Fans of the award-winning singer were not impressed with the show’s writers, nor with Netflix for allowing the comment about Swift.

Swift’s love life has been a long-standing ‘joke’ for years.
Also, it is surprising that the editors at Netflix would allow a mean depiction of Swift, considering the streaming network aired a documentary on Swift called Miss Americana; which was a hit.
“This outfit doesn’t look cute on you,” Swift tweeted, chiding the network.
Netflix has yet to make a public statement.
However, considering that the joke is about the public perception of Swift’s dating life and not a commentary on who she is, Ginny & Georgia is a go!
The series explores the drama around a mother-daughter relationship in a single-parent home.
-#HappyWomensHistoryMonth indeed.
Lighten up women. Quoting Beyonce’s Who Run the World … girls, its you.
