The Registrar General’s Department (RGD) in Jamaica has temporarily closed its Marriage Unit.

The closure, which took effect yesterday (Thursday September 2) will remain until Wednesday, September 8, 2021, when the unit reopens.

The RGD made the disclosure in an advisory to the Jamaican public.

While not giving a reason for the temporary closure, the RGD advises that weddings already booked for today Friday, September 3 and Saturday, September 4, 2021 will be facilitated.

The RGD is an Executive Agency and Jamaica’s sole repository of birth, death, marriage and fetal death records.

The RGD is the only organization in Jamaica, which is responsible for registering vital events- births, fetal deaths, marriages and deaths among other activities.
