Swiss tennis star Stan Wawrinka has received a wildcard for the Australian Open as he prepares to wrap up his career in 2026.

The three-time Grand Slam champion, who first lifted a major trophy at Melbourne Park in 2014, will kick off his final season at the tournament where it all began.

At 40-years-old and currently ranked 156th, Wawrinka hasn’t added a title since Geneva in 2017, but he remains a fan favourite thanks to his explosive game and unforgettable career moments. Meanwhile, Australian Nick Kyrgios will skip the men’s singles, citing that he isn’t ready for the rigors of five set matches. The 30- year-old, ranked 670th after injury struggles, will still compete in the men’s doubles, hoping to repeat the 2022 triumph he shared with Thanasi Kokkinakis.
