A major new airport is opening in The Bahamas.

The new airport should be up and running by year-end on Great Harbour Cay. Tourism officials say the island’s new international airport terminal represents a significant boost for Great Harbour Cay and the Berry Islands chain of The Bahamas.

Dr Kenneth Romer, deputy director general of the Ministry of Tourism, Aviation and Investments and acting director of aviation, led a recent delegation to the airport to inspect the newly built project.

TROPIC OCEAN AIRWAYS PROVIDES REGULAR SERVICE TO THE ISLAND

The island has long been a sought-after vacation home destination, particularly for visitors from South Florida, which has regular service to the island on Tropic Ocean Airways.

The new airport could be a game-changer for the destination, once home to a jet-set getaway in the 1960s that included an 18-hole golf course. This is part of a broader push by The Bahamas to transform airport terminals in the Out Islands
