Esteemed British economics and business publication The Economist is backing Democrat candidate Vice President Kamala Harris in next week’s presidential race.
With some of America’s leading newspapers opting not to support Harris or Trump, The Economist has taken a bold step.
The Economist sees Donald Trump as a clear and present danger to America and totally unfit to hold its highest public office.

“It is hard to imagine Ms Harris being a stellar president, though people can surprise you. But you cannot imagine her bringing about a catastrophe.
“Presidents do not have to be saints and we hope a second Trump presidency would avoid disaster. But Mr Trump poses an unacceptable risk to America and the world,” writes The Economist.
Most pundits and news broadcasters say Donald Trump leads on issues pertaining to the economy and finance, but The Economist puts no stock in this, calling Trump out as an existential threat to the world.

The Economist continued: “ Harris’s shortcomings by contrast are ordinary. And none of them are disqualifying. If The Economist had a vote we would cast it for her.”
Trump is expected to get in excess of 75 million votes and many believe it will be a close race. His base is strong and the MAGA [Make America Great Again] machine is formidable.
“Tens of millions of Americans will vote for Mr Trump next week. Some will be true believers. But many will take a calculated risk that in office his worst instincts would be constrained. We see that as recklessly complacent.”

By making Mr Trump leader of the free world, Americans would be gambling with the economy, the rule of law and international peace,” declared The Economist.
So far 23 Nobel Prize-winning economists have endorsed Kamala Harris, backing her economic proposals.
