
The promoted Racing United FC registered their first win in top-flight football beating Dunbeholden FC 1-0 in their Wray and Nephew Jamaican Premier League on Sunday.
Mikhale Williams netted the historic goal in the 40th minute at the Ferdie Neita Park in Portmore for the St Catherine-based club.
Coached by Anthony Patrick, Racing United secured their spot in the JPL by defeating Westmoreland-based Reno FC 2-1 on aggregate in the promotion playoffs earlier this year.
In their first match in top-flight football, Racing lost 0-1 to Waterhouse FC last week in a game in which they could have left with a point following a promising debut. Racing with their maiden win to move into the seventh spot with three points in the 14-team league.
It was another dismal day for Dunbeholden as they crashed to their second consecutive defeat following their 0-3 loss to Arnett Gardens on the opening day to be at the bottom of the league in 14th spot pointless.
Meanwhile, Vere United registered their first win of the season beating Molynes United 3-1 in the curtain raiser at Sabina Park. Vere’s Roshown Oldfield opened the scoring in the 11th minute before Jermy Nelson pulled Molynes United levelled in minute 13. Denzel McKenzie restored Vere’s advantage in the 25th minute before Romarion Thomas put the icing on the cake in stoppage time, netting in the 90+5 minute.
In the feature encounter at Sabina Park, Cavalier SC edged Portmore United 2-1 in what was their first game of the season.
Tarick Ximines raced through on goal and gave Portmore United a 19th-minute lead. But Jalmaro Calvin pulled Cavalier levelled with a powerful shot on the turn in minute 25. An own goal by Akeem Mullings in the 61st minute handed Cavalier all three points.
At Effortville Community Centre in Clarendon, home team Humble Lion and Tivoli Gardens battled to a 0-0 stalemate.
Later today, Montego Bay United will host Harbour View at 7:00 pm at the Catherine Hall Sports Complex.
