Jamaica’s Tropical Storm warning has officially ended at noon, but the island is still not in the clear.

According to the Meteorological Services of Jamaica all southern parishes are now on a Flash Flood Warning, while the rest of the island is on Flash Flood Watch until at least 5:00 p.m.

Rafael is moving northwest at about 20 km/h (13 mph) and is expected to continue this path for the next few days. The storm will move away from Jamaica today, reach the Cayman Islands this evening, and approach western Cuba by Wednesday.

Maximum sustained winds remain near 95 km/h (60 mph) with higher gusts. Some strengthening is forecast over the next 24 to 36 hours, and Rafael is expected to become a hurricane near the Cayman Islands, strengthening further before it makes landfall in Cuba.

Tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 165 kilometres (105 miles) from the centre.

Authorities are urging small craft operators to seek safe harbour and remain there until all warning messages have been lifted and conditions return to normal.

The Meteorological Service continues to monitor the progress of Tropical Storm Rafael.
