The worldwide phenomenon Flappy Bird was removed from App stores in 2014.

The mobile game created by the Vietnamese video game artist and programmer Dong Nguyen took the world by storm and is infamous for its simplistic design and gameplay that still proved difficult for players.

The game is a side-scroller where the player controls a bird, attempting to fly between columns of green pipes without hitting them.

The game inspired competition due to its difficulty and for some, Flappy Birds’ intense level of competitiveness was not always a great game. The game bred severe reports of persons losing their temper in public places, or verbally attacking Nguyen online as they agitated for an easier experience and game updates. It became an addiction for some who spent hours trying to receive a high score.

Nguyen removed the game, writing on his then-Twitter account, “I am sorry ‘Flappy Bird‘ users, 22 hours from now, I will take ‘Flappy Bird’ down,” Dong posted from his Twitter account in 2014. “I cannot take this anymore.”

Flappy Bird was removed from both the App Store and Google Play on February 10, 2014
