
The police are reporting that they have charged three men with kidnapping, robbery with aggravation, breaches of the Law Reform Act and breaches of the Cybercrime Act, following an incident at Folly in Portland on Sunday, December 17.
They are 24-year-old Sandre Phipps, otherwise called Manta, a waiter of Land Settlement, Portland; 28-year-old Davian Henry, a taxi operator of Sherwood Forrest, Portland; and 22-year-old Rolando Thomas, also of Sherwood Forest, Portland.
Reports from the Port Antonio police are that around 4:00 p.m., a man and a woman boarded a motor vehicle en route to Port Antonio town centre.
According to reports, upon reaching Folly main road, the driver diverted and took them to a deserted area where they were approached by three men armed with knives.
The men then robbed the couple of their belongings, which included a Samsung Galaxy S22 mobile phone valued at USD$1,000, an iPhone 14 mobile phone valued at USD$1,500 and a Go Pro camera valued at J$30,000.
While held captive, the man was reportedly also forced to contact his mother who transferred USD$2,026 to one of his abductors via a popular application.
The couple were later released by the abductors, after which the ordeal was reported to the police.
Following investigation, the men were reportedly taken into custody and the charges were laid against them.
Their court date is yet to be finalised.
