Jamaica’s rising star Tia Clayton broke the 60m meeting record stopping the clock at 7.18 while her MVP club mate Kishane Thompson won his race in 6.56 as the World Indoor Tour kicks off in Astana at the Qazaqstan Athletics Sports Complex on Saturday in Kazakhstan.

Both Tia Clayton and Thompson continued their good early season form which is an ominous sign for the World Championship later this year.

Tia Clayton wo ran 7.14 last week in Jamaica, stopped the clock at 7.18 and impressively moved away from her twin sister Tina Clayton, the World Under-20 champion,  who was second in 7.34. Arialis Gandulla of Portugal was third in 7.36.

Meanwhile, Olympic 100m silver medallist Thompson won in 6.56 ahead of Ali Anwar Al Balushi of Oman in 6.60 and Japan’s Shuhei Tada in 6.62. Canada’s double Olympic gold medallist Andre DeGrasse was sixth in that race.

After winning Thompson sat down clutching his right angle but seemed to be alright moments later. He had won his heats in 6.58.

Thompson had opened his season in Jamaica outdoor clocking 6.48 and looked to be in immaculate condition.
