TikTok, on Tuesday (May 21), has introduced the TikTok Change Makers Program which will donate over US$1 million to more than 30 global and local non-profits making an impact in their communities.
The Change Makers Program is the platform’s first-ever global effort to spotlight and support social impact creators, providing them with the necessary resources to amplify their influence.
The programme aims to support these creators over six months with tools, resources, and donations to non-profit organisations, enabling creators to build engaged communities and expand their reach, ultimately driving greater impact around their causes.
Each Change Maker will have a $25,000 donation made to a non-profit organisation of their choice in their honour to support their advocacy work, further amplifying their impact.
Kim Farrell, the TikTok head of creators, said, “The TikTok global community harnesses creative self-expression to drive positive impact by rallying support, raising awareness, and advocating for the causes they truly care about. We’re proud to launch the TikTok Change Makers program to help social impact creators and non-profit organisations reach more communities, unlock real-world opportunities, and bring about lasting, meaningful change.”
Dr Alain Labrique, digital health and innovation director at the World Health Organization (WHO), says, “We are pleased to work with TikTok and content creators worldwide on the TikTok Change Makers Program. By leveraging our combined strengths, we can broaden our reach to communities globally, impacting health and other important issues affecting people. This program enables us to connect with wider audiences, encouraging creativity for meaningful advocacy and health communication.”
Carie Lewis Wilt, marketing director Oceana Digital, added, “We’re delighted to join hands with TikTok to introduce the Change Makers programme. Together, we’re amplifying our voices to protect and restore the world’s oceans. We believe this program has the potential to reach even more passionate audiences and empower them to use their creativity to drive impactful advocacy.”
The timing of this initiative comes within a month of the law signed by President Joe Biden on April 24, forcing ByteDance to sell TikTok or face a ban in the United States.
