Tinder, the world’s most popular dating app, is bringing a modern twist to the age-old tradition of seeking dating advice from friends.

Over 75 per cent of surveyed singles revealed that they frequently consult their friends about their dating life. To facilitate this trend, Tinder is launching Tinder MatchmakerTM, a feature that allows friends and family to join the matchmaking journey.

This innovative feature transforms dating into a collaborative effort, seamlessly integrating the “friend test” into the Tinder experience. With Tinder MatchmakerTM, users can now invite others, even those without Tinder profiles, to view and suggest potential matches. It provides users with the unique opportunity to see which profiles their friends approve of when considering a potential match. However, as in real life, the ultimate decision to ‘Like’ a profile remains with the user.

Melissa Hobley, chief marketing officer at Tinder, said: “For years, singles have asked their friends to help find their next match on Tinder, and now we’re making that so easy with Tinder Matchmaker. Tinder Matchmaker brings your circle of trust into your dating journey and helps you see the possibilities you might be overlooking from the perspective of those closest to you.”

To introduce users to this new digital dating dynamic, Tinder has partnered with the renowned rapper Coi Leray. Coi Leray, the newly crowned “Matchmaking Monarch of Tinder Court,” recognises the complexities of modern dating, where the approval of your friends can be paramount.

Leray explained, “Handing your phone over to the friend group was the original vibe check. Obviously, you want your friends to like whoever you’re crushing on, and Tinder Matchmaker is a fun way to get the bestie seal of approval even before the match.”

A Tinder Matchmaker session can be initiated directly from a profile card or within app settings. Users can share their unique link with up to 15 friends within a 24-hour window. Matchmakers, after following the link, can log in to Tinder or continue as guests (after age verification and agreement to Tinder’s terms).

Matchmakers have 24 hours to play Cupid, recommending profiles for the Tinder user, although they cannot engage in chats or send messages on the user’s behalf. Once the session expires, Tinder users have the opportunity to review the profiles that their matchmakers have ‘Liked’ for them. Profiles receiving a ‘Like’ from a matchmaker are marked as a “recommendation”.

Tinder Matchmaker is now available in several countries, including the United Kingdom, and will be rolling out to Tinder users worldwide in the coming months.
