With an influx of Christmas movies flooding streaming platforms, here are some not-so-merry movies for the people who loathe the season and are simply not interested in romantic comedies.

There are just 13 days to go until Christmas, which means streaming services are flooded with holiday movies such as Falling for Christmas, The Noel Diary and Christmas Movie Magic.

But, not everyone is willing to sit back and watch a cheesy romantic film. Instead, they might prefer an action or adventure movie, something unpredictable that will give them an adrenaline rush.

If you are tired of watching the same movie, with a different cast, or you simply loathe the holiday season, here are some movies to satisfy your inner Grinch.

1. Prisoners

Streaming platform: Netflix (available now)

Genre: Thriller/Crime

Cast: Jake Gyllenhaal, Hugh Jackman, Paul Dano and Terrence Howard.

Synopsis: A father faces a parent’s worst nightmare when his six-year-old daughter is kidnapped. When the only lead that detectives have falls through, he takes matters into his own hands as he seeks to reunite with his child.

2. Bullet Train

Streaming Platform: Netflix (available now)

Genre: Action/Comedy

Cast: Joey King, Brad Pitt, Bad Bunny and Aaron Taylor Johnson

Synopsis: After a series of unsuccessful missions, an unlucky assassin seeks to turn things around when he is presented with a new task.

But his job becomes increasingly difficult when he is trapped on the world’s fastest train and collides with lethal adversaries from around the globe who all have a different objective.

3. Emancipation

Streaming platform: Apple TV (available now)

Genre: Thriller/Action

Cast: Will Smith, Ben Foster, Mustafa Shakir and Steven Ogg

Synopsis: The movie, set in the 1860s, sees Peter, a slave on a plantation in Louisiana, almost beaten to death. After his near-death experience, he flees, fighting cold-blooded hunters as he journeys to the North for refuge.

4. I Love My Dad

Streaming platform: Hulu (December 16)

Genre: Comedy

Cast: James Morosini, Patton Oswalt, Claudia Sulewski and Rachel Dratch.

Synopsis: Desperate to reconnect with his estranged son, a father pretends to be a woman online. But, things get complicated when his son wants to meet the woman he has been talking with for days.

5. Top Gun: Maverick

Streaming platform: Paramount Plus (December 22)

Genre: Action/Adventure

Cast: Tom Cruise, Miles Teller, Val Kilmer and Glen Powell

Synopsis: After more than 30 years of service, Pete ‘Maverick’ Mitchell, the Navy’s top aviator, must face the ghosts of his past and his deepest fears, while on a mission that demands the ultimate sacrifice from those who choose to fly it.
