Tivoli Gardens clinched the last playoff spot while Humble Lion were relegated as the final round of the Wray and Nephew Jamaica Premier League was dramatically concluded on Sunday.

It was a dark day for the parish of Clarendon as Humble Lion joined fellow parish team Vere Phoenix United as the two teams were relegated from the league following their 0-4 mauling by Mount Pleasant.

Humble Lion, which was suffering their 20th defeat from 39 games, ended on 33 points, two below Molynes United on 35 after they crashed 3-4 to Cavalier and just three points adrift of Harbour View, who lost 1-5 to Arnett Gardens.

Had Humble Lion won, they would have been safe, but they had the most difficult task playing runaway leaders Mount Pleasant and had no answers.

Chevaughn Walsh (8th, 39th), Claver Nugent (83rd) and Daniel Green (87th) propelled Mount Pleasant to their 29th win of the season and onto 93 points, having already secured their birth into the semi-final of the playoffs as the number one seed.

Meanwhile, Tivoli Gardens booked their playoff spot with a hard-fought come-from-behind 2-1 win over Montego Bay United despite finishing the game with 10 men as Lennox Russell was red carded in minute 72. But before that, he had given Tivoli the lead in the 40th minute.

Johann Weatherly’s 10th-minute strike had given Montego Bay the lead before Nickalia Fuller pulled them level in the 36th minute.

With the win, Tivoli finished on 58 points, the same as Waterhouse FC, but secured the final playoff spot with a better goal difference.

On the other hand, Montego Bay just missed the automatic semi-final spot reserved for the top two teams, finishing in third position with 75 points.

That second automatic semi-final spot went to Arnett Gardens, who demolished Harbour View 5-1 and finished second with 76 points.

Rohan Brown gave the Stars of the East the 44th  minute lead but that spurred Arnett into action and they responded with five goals courtesy of Fabian Reid (47th), Jaheim Thomas (58th), Rushike Kelson (70th), Chavany Willis (79th) and Ricardo Thomas (90th).

Harbour View, which had a poor season, finished in 11th spot on 36 points, just three above the relegated Humble Lion on 33 points.

At Drewsland, despite beating Dunbeholden 2-0, Waterhouse FC painstakingly missed the playoffs on goal difference, finishing with 58 points, the same as Tivoli Gardens, but instead in a season-ending seventh spot. Andre Fletcher (17th) and Denardo Thomas (55th) scored for Waterhouse.

Dunbeholden, which was losing their 22nd game of the season, finished in 10th spot on 37 points.

At the Wembley Centre of Excellence in Clarendon, the promoted Chapelton Maroons made sure they remained in top-flight football with a 3-1 win over the relegated Vere Phoenix United. Goals by Javel Ellis (23th), Nathaniel Howe (24th) and Dunsting Cohen (67th) pushed Chapelton to their ninth win of the season and onto 37 points in ninth spot. A very good showing for their first time in Premier League football.

Marcus Roas Filho scored for Vere Phoenix in the 45th minute as they suffered their 26th defeat from 39 games and finished at the bottom of the 14-team league with 23 points from just five wins.

At the Ferdie Neita Park, home team Portmore United blanked Racing United 2-0 as they warmed up for the playoffs, sitting in fifth spot on 66 points. Romeo Guthrie scored both goals in the 12th and 40th minutes.

Champions Cavalier edged Molynes United 4-3 and finished fourth on 69 points. Dwayne Atkinson netted two goals in two minutes in the 80th and 82nd. Jamoy Dennis had opened the scoring in the 31st minute and Jalmaro Calvin doubled the advantage in minute 59. Molynes United got a scare as they finished just two points above the relegated Humble Lion, finishing in 12th spot on 36 points. Rashawn Livingston (43rd), Dante Fitz (61st) and Tyrique Wilson (87th) were the scorers.
