The Royal Jamaica Yacht Club (RJYC) hosted the its annual fishing tournament between Friday (February 7) and Saturday (February 8), featuring top anglers from across the Caribbean competing for J$1 million in cash and prizes.

Hi-Pro Ace and Seaboard Marine joined as ‘silver’ sponsors, with Sterling Asset Management and JMMB supporting as ‘bronze’ sponsors. Fifteen teams registered for this premier sporting event.

The two-day tournament commenced Thursday following the captains’ briefing. Competitors tested their skills in Kingston Harbour and surrounding waters. Daily weigh-ins occurred at the RJYC markers on Friday and Saturday.

The tournament culminated in an awards ceremony on Saturday evening, during which the tournament champion was crowned.

The tournament’s venue, the Royal Jamaica Yacht Club, boasts a distinguished history dating back to 1884.

It received its royal charter from Queen Victoria in 1889. Until Jamaica’s independence in 1962, the country’s governor traditionally served as the club’s commodore, after which the position became member-elected.
