Miss Universe Jamaica Toshami Calvin showcased the rich culture of the island through a dazzling emerald green costume on Wednesday (January 11) at the Miss Universe Costume Competition in Louisiana.
Calvin’s costume, which is said to have been inspired by national heroine, Nanny of the Maroons, consisted of both emeralds and feathers that exuded elegance as she graced the stage last evening.
The 26-year-old St Thomas native further captured the crowd with an energetic display of the abeng, which is blown by the Maroons to communicate over great distances.
As the night progressed, Calvin further captivated the crowd in the preliminary evening gown performance with a dazzling gold evening gown that she wore with grace and elegance.

Calvin also excelled in the preliminary swimsuit performance where she wore a blue swimsuit that was accentuated by a cape that had boldly written words ‘Out of Many’ and a drawing of the island.
She noted in a social media post that the cape was inspired by her family, country and advocacy.
“As I represented Jamaica, the land of my birth, internationally in our 60th year of independence, I wanted to encapsulate my pride in our country. We likkle but we tallawah! -we may be small, but we are strong, mighty, resilient and can do and be everything,” she said.
The Miss Universe 2023 competition, which is set to take place on Saturday (January 14), will see almost 90 women from across the globe vying for the Miss Universe title.
