It has been a horrible season for Tottenham Hotspur, and the possibility of relegation has been hovering over the club for the last two months
With three Head coaches this season and a list of injuries, this was a terrible year for Tottenham, one they would sooner forget.
While relegation was unthinkable to contemplate, the prospect was real.
Today, Tottenham showed grit, pulled out a 1-0 win against Everton and can breathe a sigh of relief.
The bosses will have to overhaul this team, spend some serious money and back the new Head Coach.
Tottenham survived with 41 points, but next season must ensure they are in the top half of the table. Many of Tottenham’s best players like James Maddison, Dominic Solange and Dejan Kulusevski should be coming back from injury next season.
Creativity is lacking from this team, and it misses both Harry Kane and Heung-Min Son. Tottenham desperately needs to find a new double act who can bring potency to the team.
The Italian Roberto De Zerbi has signed a 5-year contract as Head Coach, and that signals his commitment to this project. He did a good job at both Brighton and Marseille. The ownership must support him and focus on football, not Beyonce concerts and other revenue streams. This season was a wake-up call, and it could have all ended in tears with last year’s Europa Cup winner out of the EPL and having to play the likes of Leyton Orient and Wigan Athletic on a Saturday afternoon.
Thomas Frank was out of his depth, and it was a bad appointment in the first place. Igor Tudor was sacked after just seven games and had no answers. If he were left to see to it that Tottenham survived, the North Londoners would already be relegated.
Make no mistake, this season was a scare, and Tottenham have survived the nightmare. It has to be far better next season.
Today, with West Ham beating Leeds 2-0, Tottenham had to get a result. That was the stark reality. It is a shame the East London side has been relegated despite winning today, but it is expected to immediately return to the EPL in the 2027/2028 season.
After 14 years in the EPL and now relegated, will West Ham’s Head Coach Nuno Espírito Santo who was appointed in September 2025, remain at West Ham?
He may be inclined to seek pastures new; however, West Ham should hold onto him and give him the mandate to return the club to top-flight football.
