After taking a 6-1 hiding from Newcastle yesterday (April 23), Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy moved today, sacking interim coach and Antonio Conte’s No.2 Cristian Stellini.
Tottenham has had five managers in three year highlighting the shambolic management of the London club.
This season, Tottenham was vying for a top four position and a berth in the Champions League competition. A case could be made that the team should have comfortably secured third spot after Manchester City and Arsenal.
Instead this season has been marked by inconsistencies and dire performances seeing the club live up to its reputation as going “Spursy” and failing to get the job done from good positions.
Yesterday, Stellini reverted to a back four that was more leaky than a kitchen sieve. Tottenham conceded five goals within the opening 21 minutes.

The team displayed no desire, no will to win and no competitive spirit. It was a a total capitulation.
This is what the former coach, the Italian Antonio Conte was talking about before he so unceremoniously took his leave from a club now sinking into the abyss.
Tottenham will not make the top four this year and may very well have to settle for playing in the Europa League. On this current trajectory, it may even be surpassed by both Liverpool and Newcastle.
It is doubtful whether its talisman Harry Kane will remain to finish out his career at a club that cannot match his ambition.
“Sunday’s performance against Newcastle was wholly unacceptable. It was devastating to see. We can look at many reasons why it happened and whilst myself, the board, the coaches and players must all take collective responsibility, ultimately the responsibility is mine,” surmised chairman Daniel Levy.
“Cristian will leave his current role along with his coaching staff,” he further mused.

With Antonio Conte agreeing to leave, many have asked why install his number two to run the team with the same brand of football? It wan’t the most likely course to make top four and so it proved.
Ryan Mason will now be made interim coach for the second time.
Tottenham had a reputation over the years for flair and attacking football which was stifled under Conte and Stellini who chose to hit teams on the counter.
This season saw a team with no mental fortitude, playing pedestrian football. Take away Harry Kane’s contributions and Tottenham would probably be somewhere near mid table.
That being said, the team has one of the most potent attacking line-ups in the league but still can only seem to call on Harry Kane to net goals.
Its midfield are only able to pass horizontally forcing Kane deep to collect the ball.
It will be a task for a manager to come in and transform this team who are unable to deliver the goods.
Conte’s words now ring true when he said after Tottenham gave up a 3-1 winning position against Southampton to end up with a draw.

“For me this unacceptable. We are winning 3-1, in control and concede two goals. I think it’s better to go into the problem we are not a team. We are 11 players that go unto the pitch. I see selfish players, players that don’t want to help each other and don’t put their heart into it.
“This season compared to last, now we are worse in this aspect. When you are not a team you cannot improve.
“Tottenham’s story is this. Twenty years there is the owner and they never won something but why? The fault is only for the club, or for every manager that stays here. I have seen the managers that Tottenham had on the bench.”
