Minister of Tourism Edmund Bartlett has directed the Tourism Product Development Company Limited (TPDCo) to conduct comprehensive impact assessments on tourism properties along Jamaica’s South Coast, with a specific focus on Negril by Tropical Storm Rafael.
Bartlett’s directive aims to ensure the preservation and swift recovery of key tourism assets vital to Jamaica’s hospitality industry.
Speaking from the World Travel Market in London, where he is currently engaged in critical discussions to bolster Jamaica’s tourism industry, Bartlett highlighted the importance of rapid response to natural disruptions.
“I have instructed TPDCo to evaluate and assess the storm’s impact on properties and infrastructure across the South Coast and Negril. This proactive approach allows us to address and remedy any issues affecting our tourism product and to continue providing an exceptional experience for our visitors,” he stated.
As part of these assessments, TPDCo will focus on identifying areas that require immediate repair or reinforcement, as well as any support required for affected tourism operators. The findings will help to inform further action plans to restore and sustain Jamaica’s tourism offerings as the country prepares for peak season.
