As Jamaica’s tourism sector continues to rebound from the impact of hurricane Melissa, Tourism Minister Edmund Bartlett has made an investment pitch to the United States Chargé d’Affaires to Jamaica, Scott Renner.

The American envoy and his team paid a courtesy call on Bartlett at the Ministry of Tourism earlier this week, during which Bartlett underscored that the island remains an excellent location for investment.

Bartlett expressed optimism in the national recovery effort, noting that the ministry is focused on rebuilding better and reimagining areas such as Black River, St Elizabeth and Lucea, Hanover.

This, he argued, will provide the opportunity to pivot towards luxury tourism in those areas in order to add value, boost earnings and further diversify the island’s tourism product. He highlighted that the recovery phase will also provide opportunities for investment.

Further discussions to come

Both Bartlett and Renner agreed to have further discussions on ways to attract US investors, as the sector rebuilds, as well as to continue dialogue on ways to enable Jamaica to host large groups from the US and better tap into the Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions (MICE) market.

For his part, Renner commended Jamaica’s resilience and the handling of the recovery effort. In the meantime, Jamaica’s tourism recovery continues to be driven by strategic international engagement and decisive leadership.

Through high-level global outreach, the Ministry of Tourism and its public bodies are reinforcing confidence in Destination Jamaica, strengthening long-standing partnerships and positioning the sector for sustained growth.

Tourism remains a vital pillar of our economy, supporting thousands of livelihoods across the island.

The ministry’s message to global markets is clear: “Jamaica is rebuilding with purpose and advancing with resilience.”
