The Ministry of Tourism, under its newly formed Tourism Resilience Coordination Committee, has launched a recovery initiative designed to support the rebuilding of tourism communities and assist persons affected by Hurricane Melissa, including tourism workers.

Dubbed Jamaica Tourism Cares, the initiative brings together the strength of industry partners, local stakeholders, and friends of Jamaica at home and abroad to help restore lives and livelihoods across the sector. It will also help raise money and secure in-kind aid, skilled volunteers and technical expertise to support the workers, Micro, Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (MSMEs), and communities that drive the tourism economy.

The initiative will work in alignment with the Office of Disaster Preparedness and Emergency Management (ODPEM), and route aid efficiently via supportjamaica.gov.jm for transparent processing and timely delivery. Donations can also be made through registered non-profit organisations, including the Breds Treasure Beach Foundation, Sandals Foundation, Hanover Charities (in partnership with the Chukka Foundation), and the Rockhouse Foundation.

Jamaica Tourism Cares will provide assistance to displaced tourism workers, extending to repairing vital community infrastructure. The Tourism Ministry is emphasising, ”every contribution plays a part in rebuilding the heart of Jamaica’s tourism, our people.”
