The British Virgin Islands also enjoys zero active cases of COVID-19—one of three jurisdictions in the entire Caribbean currently.

The British Virgin Islands is the latest Caribbean territory to be back on zero active coronavirus (COVID-19) cases, as the region’s recovery rate outpaced new infections.

In the last four days, the Caribbean recorded slightly more closed cases (9,297) than new infections (8,254)—with the spike seemingly cooling.  The region heads toward a commendable 25 weeks of keeping majority closed cases.

Six days away from the one-year anniversary since the pandemic first infiltrated Caribbean shores, analysis of regional data by Our Today has noted 23 of the 32 affected countries and territories reported new cases within the last 24 hours.

As at 8:09 pm Greenwich Meridian Time (GMT) on Thursday, February 25, collated data from respective health departments across the region have indicated a combined total of 529,363 confirmed cases of COVID-19.

Of that number, some 345,074 cases, or roughly 65.2 per cent, have officially been declared closed. There are currently 184,289 active cases regionally.

The statistics were largely the result of patients across the Caribbean reporting a full recovery from the infectious disease (327,735 recoveries to date, barring insufficient data from Puerto Rico and Martinique).

Amid the third wave of the pandemic, Caribbean countries have ramped up their respective responces with en-masse testing complied with measures targeting mass movement of the general population.

In the meantime, the total number of patients who succumbed to coronavirus-related complications has steadily climbed to 8,163.

At the time of publication, the British Virgin Islands, Anguilla and Grenada were the Caribbean’s only territories without active cases.
