TransJamaican Highway Limited (TJH), the operator of the Highway 2000 East-West toll road network, has increased the number of T-Tag lanes available to motorists.

Ivan Anderson, managing director of TJH, has indicated that “over the past year, 30 per cent more motorists were using the T-Tag lanes, that is looking at February 2024 versus February 2023. So, to meet the demands of our customers, we have upgraded our technology to allow manual lanes to be able to be operated as T-Tag lanes. At the same time, we are also making more of our lanes capable of facilitating traffic in either direction, allowing us to adjust them as necessary during the morning and evening peaks.”

Consequently, TJH advises that this will allow them to increase the number of T-Tag lanes available to their customers while at the same time reducing congestion at toll plazas.

The company says shifting to T-Tag lanes reduces the cost of collecting and managing cash at toll plazas, and makes toll operations far more efficient for it and users of the highway alike. Anderson says switching more lanes to T-Tag lanes is a move towards making the toll plazas safer for both employees and motorists.

Increasing the amount of T-Tag lanes will also reduce the amount of cash handled at our toll plazas. This makes them safer for all concerned.

TJH reminds customers that the T-Tag offers several benefits to customers, as the automated T-Tag lanes allow drivers to pass through all Highway 2000 East-West toll plazas much faster than when they use manual lanes. The toll company also offers reduced toll fares to Class 1 & 2 motorists using the T-Tag lanes at all toll plazas.

T-Tag customers can also benefit from ‘Frequent User Discounts’ currently applicable to Class 1 & 2 customers at all Highway 2000 East-West toll plazas. Under the Frequent User Discount Programme, the 10th weekly trip through any one toll plaza is free, and all subsequent trips within that week are further discounted by 10 per cent.

Earlier this year, TJH announced that motorists will begin to see an increase in the number of T-Tag lanes available at its toll plazas, starting in April 2024. TJH encourages motorists who do not yet have the T-Tag, to purchase them quickly from any manual toll booth at a special discounted rate for a limited time. At the discounted rate, customers will receive the T-Tag (sticker) and swipe card inclusive of J$500 opening credit for only J$1,500. The price for this T-Tag package will return to J$2,500 after April 30.

The toll operator also encourages existing T-Tag customers to use the T-Tag lane for all their passages, and to keep topping up on the website or through the My T-Tag app available on the Google Play Store and the App Store. Other ways to top up include in the manual lanes, at the sales offices located at all Highway 2000 East-West toll plazas, and through Paymaster.
