The Transport Authority says an employee captured in a video circulating on social media appearing to draw a firearm during a road operation, has been removed from frontline duties as an internal investigation gets underway.

In a statement issued on Monday, the authority said the employee was removed with “immediate effect,” stressing that the conduct shown in the video is not consistent with its training protocols, Standard Operating Procedures, or Public Interaction Policy.

“The authority wishes to unequivocally state that this type of conduct does not form any part of its training protocols and is not aligned with its Standard Operating Procedures or Public Interaction Policy,” the statement said.

The Transport Authority, which is responsible for the licensing of all public and commercial vehicles, said it is also working closely with the Jamaica Constabulary Force and the Firearm Licensing Authority to ensure a comprehensive review of the incident.

No details were provided on when or where the incident occurred.

A video that circulated online last week shows an interaction involving persons wearing vests marked Transport Authority,’ a man, and a vehicle during what appeared to be a road operation. In the footage, one of the individuals wearing a Transport Authority vest appears to pull an object from his waist while moving toward the vehicle.

“Step back, sir. Step back from the vehicle,” the man is heard saying. The other individual responds, “So, shot me den; shot me den,” as a police officer reverses the vehicle.

In its statement, the Transport Authority reiterated its commitment to professionalism and respect, noting that it expects all employees to conduct themselves in a manner consistent with its values.

“The Transport Authority assures the public that it remains committed to ensuring efficient, safe, and reliable public transportation service,” the statement added.
