Transport Minister Daryl Vaz has expressed sadness following news of the tragic death of Brittny Hunter, a customer service representative who was killed after reportedly walking into the path of a tractor head along Walks Road in St. Catherine this morning, May 31.

Hunter was pronounced dead at the Spanish Town Hospital.

In a statement on Friday, May 31, the Transport Minister extended his deepest sympathies to the bereaved family and reaffirmed his ministry’s unwavering commitment to promoting road safety and preventing further tragedies of this nature.

“Our heartfelt condolences go out to the family and loved ones of the victim during this difficult time. The loss of a life under such circumstances is truly heartbreaking, and our thoughts are with all those affected by this tragedy,” Vaz said.

“Road safety is a matter of utmost importance to the Government of Jamaica, and we are committed to working tirelessly to prevent such accidents from occurring in the future. In fact, the Ministry is about to roll out a Pedestrian Safety Campaign, specifically aimed at educating and protecting this category of road users. We continue to urge all road users to exercise caution, obey traffic laws, and always prioritize the safety of themselves and others,” Vaz added.

He said he will continue to collaborate with relevant stakeholders to enhance road safety measures across the country through public education, infrastructure improvements, and enforcement of traffic regulations.

“We aim to create safer roads for all Jamaicans, and I reaffirm the government’s commitment to serve and protect our most vulnerable road users,” Vaz said.
