In a harmonious collaboration among the Jamaica Council of Senior Citizens, Lions Club of St Andrew Central, and the institution’s environment club, a transformative tree planting and environment project took root at Morris Knibbs Preparatory School on Tuesday (November 28).
At the launch event, Marlon Johnson, the Labour Ministry representative and coordinator of the Senior Citizen Council, underscored the importance of fostering collaboration between seniors and the youth, emphasising the collective impact on environmental initiatives and beyond.
Principal Weida Sadler expressed heartfelt gratitude to the Jamaica Council of Senior Citizens and the Lions Club of St Andrew Central, affirming the school’s commitment to sustained partnership.

Lions Club of St Andrew Central representative Brenda Scarlett Miller, a past president of the Senior Citizen Council, reiterated the importance of an enduring collaboration by presenting watering cans and sharing invaluable tips on tree maintenance.
The school’s teachers, principal, and students came together to plant trees, symbolising the commencement of a series of environmental initiatives within the school.

Sadler extended an invitation to potential supporters interested in contributing to the reactivation and upgrade of the school garden. Donations of seedlings, fruit-bearing trees, root crops, and gardening supplies are warmly welcomed.

This impactful collaboration not only contributes to the school’s environmental efforts but also serves as a beacon of unity, knowledge-sharing and exchange between seniors and youth, and community building.
According to the collaborating organisations, the tree planting project at Morris Knibbs Prep signifies a commitment to nurturing sustainable practices and fostering connections and two-way learning and cross fertilisation that span generations.
