Tributes are pouring in on social media after the news broke of the death of fashion pioneer and founder of Pulse Investments Limited, Kingsley Cooper.

Copper died on Tuesday (June 18), after suffering from an undisclosed illness for the past several weeks.

Prime Minister Andrew Holness, reacting to news of Cooper’s death, described him as a trailblazer in the model and lifestyle sectors.

“His pioneering work as the founder of Pulse Model Agency in the 1980s was the catalyst that put Jamaica front and centre in the lifestyle sector, both locally and overseas. Kingsley’s astute business sense saw him transform Pulse into an investment and lifestyle brand with significant regional impact. He created products such as Caribbean Model Search and Caribbean Fashion Week, among others, and later listed the investment company on the stock market, leading to its entry into real estate and other ventures,” Holness said in a tweet on X, formerly known as Twitter.

He said Jamaica has lost an icon in the fashion industry who discovered several of the world’s best models who represented major brands.

Culture Minister Olivia Grange says she is saddened to hear of Cooper’s passing, someone she grew to love and respect.

“He was a very patriotic and committed Jamaican who never hesitated whenever he was called on to serve his country, and he served unconditionally. For these reasons and more, he earned my love, appreciation, and respect, as well as that of many Jamaicans from all walks of life,” she said.

Leader of the Opposition Mark Golding

Meanwhile, in a similar statement, Opposition Leader Mark Golding, said that the fashion mogul has left a legacy that will continue to inspire future generations.

“Kingsley Cooper was a beacon of Jamaican culture and creativity. His vision and dedication have left an indelible legacy that will continue to inspire future generations. We are deeply saddened by his loss, but we celebrate the immense contributions he has made to our nation,” he said.
