Trinidad & Tobago now has a permanent World Bank Office

The twin-island Caribbean island republic of Trinidad and Tobago now has a permanent World Bank Office.

Earlier this week, Prime Minister, Kamla Persad-Bissessar along with World Bank Group representatives, officially signed agreements on the World Bank Group’s permanent office in the territory.

Describing the move as a covenant of trust between the government and the people T&T, the Prime Minister articulated concrete measures to drive the economy forward, noting that the physical presence of the World Bank signals a new era of institutional confidence and profound strategic importance.

She said the deal is grounded in a framework of service. While acknowledging the nation’s huge reliance on the energy sector,  Persad-Bissessar emphasized that this partnership will provide the necessary fuel to expand into non-energy industries, ensuring long-term resilience.

By establishing direct contact between the Government’s economic sectors and the World Bank, the office is set to bring efficiency, reduce administrative delays, and offer immediate access to financing that will benefit the private sector.

This major milestone serves as a powerful signal to global investors that Trinidad and Tobago is officially open for business, backed by practical, forward-looking decisions to deliver for every citizen.
