Former St Andrew High School 400m hurdler and 2020 Sports Journalist of the Year Trishana McGowan said she’s delighted to be selected as part of the Grand Slam broadcast team.
The inaugural series will run off in Jamaica on April 4 as multiple Olympic and world champions will descend on the island in the next few days.
But their stories must be told and McGowan will be one of those to do so for the four-event series that will have stops in Miami (May 2-4); Philadelphia (May 30-June 1 and Los Angeles (June 27-29).
“Oh, wow. A bit speechless,” said McGown when told by Our Today that she was selected as part of the broadcast team.

“But I can say that, I’m truly happy to have made the final cut and be chosen. It’s a great opportunity for me, for women in sports, especially for a small region because not often a woman from the region gets an opportunity for in sports especially, in track and field even if things are hosted here,” said McGowan. “So, for me, it’s a big deal, not only for me to do well, but so that they can see that Jamaica is filled with women in sports who are forced to reckon with. I’m really, really happy about that”.
McGowan believed that the event starting in Jamaica speaks to the volume and quality of what the island’s athletes have done over the years and at “no point in time people took us for granted”.
She said: “When you look at our last performances on the world stage that too is telling that we have moved even past just being a track nation, but we are now totally embodying what it means in track and field.
“So, I am really happy to see that the grand slam has started here in Jamaica and I’m hoping that people will turn out and give their support, not just to our local athletes, but to the sport itself. “I think that it’s a great start. It’s a great opportunity for me and I’m just happy to be a part of it.”
