Far out in the open ocean, Tropical Storm Andrea formed as the first named cyclone of the 2025 Atlantic Hurricane Season on Tuesday (June 24).
The Miami-headquartered National Hurricane Center (NHC) located Andrea near latitude 36.6 degrees north and longitude 48.9 degrees west—or roughly 1,940 kilometres west of the Azores islands.
In an 11:00 am Atlantic Daylight Time (ADT) advisory, NHC sleuths anticipate “little change in strength today”, while weakening will spell Andrea’s likely dissipation by Wednesday.
The system, boasting tropical-storm-force winds that extend outward up to 75 kilometres from the centre, is packing maximum sustained winds near 65 kilometres/hour, with higher gusts.
Andrea, formerly Invest AL90, is moving east-northeast at 28 kilometres/hour and is currently no threat to land.
