Hours after roaring in the Atlantic Ocean as tropical depression five, Tropical Storm Danielle strengthened into the fourth named storm of the 2022 Hurricane Season today (September 1), with more intensification anticipated in the next couple of days.

The US-based National Hurricane Center (NHC), in its first bulletin tracking Danielle as at 3:00 pm Greenwich Meridian Time (GMT), said that the centre of the tropical storm was located near latitude 38.1 North, longitude 44.7 West.

Tropical Storm Danielle, situated 1,545 kilometres west of The Azores, is ‘crawling’ east at four kilometres/hour and packing maximum sustained winds of 65 kilometres/hour with higher gusts.

According to the NHC, more strengthening is forecast during the next few days, with “Danielle expected to become a hurricane in two days or so”.

Though tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 55 kilometres from Danielle’s centre, the system does not pose any direct threat to land at this time.
