US President Donald Trump confirmed on Friday (August 22) that the draw for the 2026 FIFA World Cup will take place in Washington DC this December.

The tournament, set to be the largest in World Cup history, will feature 48 teams and span across three host nations: the United States, Canada, and Mexico.

While the draw was initially expected to be held in Las Vegas — echoing the 1994 tournament when the U.S. last hosted — officials have chosen the Kennedy Center as the venue. President Trump currently serves as chairman of the iconic Washington institution.

FIFA president Gianni Infantino joined the announcement from the Oval Office, proudly displaying the World Cup trophy.

He stated that the draw will be broadcast live around the world and is expected to reach over a billion viewers. He further added that they will have 48 teams, and 104 matches — 104 Super Bowls.

The draw is scheduled for December 5.
