The war in Iran is about to go to another level after U.S. Vice President J.D. Vance was unable to secure a deal with Iran in Pakistan after 21 hours of talks.
This has irked President Trump, who has announced that the U.S. will now impose a blockade on the Strait of Hormuz with Iran will no longer be allowed to charge a toll on passing ships.
As much as 20 per cent of the world’s oil export supply passes through the Strait of Hormuz, and Iran has used it as leverage in the conflict.
President Trump says he now has the support of NATO, with UK Prime Minister Sir Kier Starker unwilling to join the U.S. and Israel in bringing down Iran.
He added that his threat to annihilate Iran’s “ entire civilisation was effective, bringing the regime to the negotiating table.
Iran has refused to abandon its nuclear weapon program and finds the terms of the U.S. deal unacceptable. It is taking exception to Israel’s continued bombing of both the country and Lebanon
It looks likely now that the two-week ceasefire will end with the U.S. no longer holding to a cessation. Trump has not ruled out putting boots on the ground despite Iran saying it can field a million-strong army.
The world holds its breath and watches to see what President Trump will do next.
Taking to his Truth Social, media platform, Trump wrote: “ Effective immediately the United States Navy, the finest in the world, will begin the process of blockading any and all ships trying to enter or leave the Strait of Hormuz.
“I have also instructed our navy to seek and interdict every vessel in international waters that has paid a toll to Iran. No one who pays an illegal toll will have safe passage on the high seas. Any Iranian who fires at us, or at peaceful vessels, will be blown to hell!’
This, in effect, means that the United States is now in control of the Strait of Hormuz and Iran will be unable to earn from ships that need to traverse it.
“God is on our side,” declared President Trump.
The high command in Tehran says it is prepared to fight on and will not be dictated to by both the U.S. and Israel. Since the war started on February 28, 2026, over 3000 people have died in Iran.
Iran was able to cut off oil and gas supplies to the world’s economy which has spelt rising inflation in the United States.
Answering questions as to why the negotiations with Iran broke down, President Trump said: ’They were very unyielding as to the single most important issue and I have always said right from the beginning and many years ago, Iran will never have a nuclear weapon.”
