In a bold and contentious move ahead of the first presidential debate of the 2024 election season, former President Donald Trump has announced that he will voluntarily undergo a drug test, urging President Joe Biden to do the same before the debate.

The announcement was made on June 24, stirring up a significant buzz in the political arena.

Trump’s request comes amidst his and his allies’ claims that Biden might be medicated during the debate, potentially affecting his performance.

As of now, both Trump and Biden are the only confirmed candidates for the upcoming debate, making this request particularly pointed and politically charged.

“Right now, crooked Joe has gone to a log cabin to ‘study’,” Trump said at a rally in Philadelphia. “He’s sleeping now because they want to get him good and strong. So a little before debate time, he gets a shot in the ass.”

The “shot” being referred to here could potentially be adrenaline or something that boosts one’s energy.

As the incumbent, Biden’s silence on the matter has sparked speculation and debate among political analysts and Trump supporters.

This isn’t the first time that Trump has raised the issue of drug testing in the context of political debates. During the 2020 presidential race, Trump similarly suggested that he and Biden should be tested for drugs, though the request was never formalised or acted upon.

Supporters of Trump see it as a legitimate call for accountability and transparency, while critics view it as a political stunt designed to cast doubt on Biden’s fitness for office.

As the debate date approaches, it remains to be seen whether this challenge will influence the proceedings.

The call for a drug test has yet to elicit a response from President Biden or his campaign team.
