Trinidad and Tobago’s 1997 200 World champion Ato Boldon has promised to deliver relief supplies for Jamaica following the devastation caused by Hurricane Melissa last week.

The 51-year-old Boldon, who has close ties to the island through his Jamaican mother, Hope Boldon, made the announcement on his podcast while wearing a Jamaican T-shirt and interviewing the newly crowned World sprint hurdles champion, Cordel Tinch.

Ironically, Tinch also revealed he has Jamaican heritage through his great-grandmother, and when he called his mom after winning the title, her response was: “Look at all the strong Jamaican boys on the podium”.

Joining Tinch on that podium were Jamaicans Orlando Bennett and Tylier Mason for the silver and bronze medals, respectively.

Boldon, who won double bronze in the 100m and 200m at the 1996 Olympic Games and silver in the 100m at the 2000 Olympic Games, said he, along with some pilot friends, will be flying in supplies through his charity my.americares.org.

“Me and my pilot friends are going to be flying an entire 737 worth of stuff down to Jamaica. So, I am looking forward very much to that.

Don’t feel like you can’t do anything at all. Everybody does not necessarily just want money from you,” he pleaded with his followers.

“You can take stuff from your pantry and give it and we are gonna make sure it gets there. Follow me on social media in the next seven to 10 days so you know where to send the stuff for Hurricane Melissa relief in Jamaica,” said Boldon.
