German multinational leisure, travel and tourism company TUI is announcing that it will restart some flights and holidays to Jamaica from next week, as the nation gradually recovers after the devastation of Hurricane Melissa.
TUI, regarded as the largest leisure, travel and tourism company in the world, will resume a limited number of holidays to Jamaica from November 24.
Last week, TUI and British carrier Virgin Atlantic announced the extension of their suspension of flights to Jamaica due to the Category 5 storm, which hit Jamaica on Tuesday, October 28, causing widespread damage, including to hotels and tourism infrastructure.
TUI cancelled package holidays and flights up until November 16, saying, “The situation remains unclear beyond November 16 and we are continuing to work closely with hotel partners and the Jamaican tourist board to establish if we can operate holidays with a full experience later in the month….We are reviewing this on a rolling basis and are currently reaching out to customers due to travel up to November 23, 2025, to discuss available options.”
In the aftermath of Hurricane Melissa, TUI helped 1,000 holidaymakers return to the UK from Montego Bay on four initial relief flights and deployed two others, more than two weeks ago.
The Jamaica Tourist Board (JTB) says the country is gradually getting back on track with all airports operational again, releasing a list of hotels, tours and activities that are open again. The JTB has targeted December 15 for a full tourism industry recovery.
