The domestic NextGen TV thrust is gathering momentum, as the country’s main television broadcaster, Television Jamaica (TVJ), has brought seven new ATSC 3.0 transmitter sites online.

They are located in St. Andrew, Manchester, Westmoreland, Portland, St. Mary, St. James and St. Thomas. These new sites join those existing ATSC 3.0 transmitter sites.

This move means two-thirds of the island nation’s people are covered by NextGen TV signals, as NextGen TV coverage of the island is climbing. The deployment of seven more ATSC 3.0 transmitter sites across the nation, brings 3.0’s reach to 66% of the population living in 14 island parishes.

Claire Grant, deputy CEO of broadcast and content services for RJRGLEANER Communications Group and TVJ general manager, says testing is advancing “at pace…, especially for the Olympics.”
