Two men have been charged with being in possession of a prohibited weapon and unauthorized possession of ammunition after they were held in the Cherry Tree Lane community in Four Paths, Clarendon, on Monday.

The men’s arrest came a day after gunmen shot up the community of Cherry Tree Lane killing 8 people and injuring nine others.

The men arrested in relation to the illegal firearm are 24-year-old Devonte Jackson, a construction worker of Cherry Tree Lane, and 22-year-old Rick Edwards, a farmer of Lawson Boulevard, also in Four Path, Clarendon.

According to reports from the May Pen police, at about 10:30 am, a police/military team was conducting a joint military operation in the area and observed two motorcycles entering the community.

They were reportedly stopped, and one of the men ran. A chase ensued and the lawmen caught Jackson.

The police said a black and grey Louis Vuitton cross bag was retrieved from Jackson and searched.

A black Taurus 9mm pistol and a magazine with twelve 9mm rounds were found in the bag. He reportedly told the police he was given the bag by Edwards, who denied the claims.

Both were subsequently arrested and charged. A court date is being arranged for both men.
