The Urban Development Corporation (UDC), in partnership with the Tourism Enhancement Fund (TEF), today kicked off its 2026 Summer Internship Programme, welcoming 55 interns who will spend the next four weeks gaining practical experience across the Corporation and its subsidiaries.

The initiative provides students and young professionals with valuable workplace experience while offering insight into the UDC’s role in shaping communities across Jamaica.

The internship experience began with an orientation session at the Jamaica Conference Centre, where participants were introduced to the Corporation’s mandate, mission and impact. The day’s activities included presentations from members of the UDC leadership team, professional development sessions and a presentation from a former intern who shared insights from their journey and the value of the experience in shaping their career.

Among those addressing the interns were Adrian Chin, Deputy General Manager, Corporate Services, and Sherlock Glenister, Deputy General Manager, Subsidiary Management and Revenue Generation, who encouraged participants to embrace the opportunity to learn, grow and contribute during their placement with the Corporation. Throughout the orientation, interns also participated in a series of presentations and interactive sessions led by members of the UDC team, covering topics such as communication skills, career development and workplace expectations.

Speaking at the orientation, Glenister highlighted the importance of creating opportunities that expose young people to the world of work while helping them develop the skills and confidence needed for future success.

“This internship gives young people an opportunity to move beyond the classroom and experience the realities of the professional world. Whether they are placed at one of our attractions, parks or corporate offices, interns will gain valuable exposure to the work that goes into managing and developing assets that serve communities across Jamaica. We hope they leave the internship with new skills, greater confidence and a deeper appreciation for the role they can play in shaping the country’s future,” said Glenister.

Through the Summer Internship Programme, UDC provides young Jamaicans with an opportunity to gain practical workplace experience while developing a greater understanding of the Corporation’s work and its contribution to national development.

As the interns begin their placements across UDC, they will gain firsthand insight into the work involved in developing, managing and enhancing assets and spaces that serve communities across Jamaica while building skills that will support their future careers.
