After the Labour Party was trounced in the recently held local government elections, practically wiped off the map, calls are escalating from the Labour Party for Prime Minister Sir Keir Starker to step down.
At least 90 M.P.s and 3 Cabinet members have told him he must go but Starmer has remained resolute and is determined to fight on.
One hundred M.P.s have signed a petition for him to carry on leading the country.
Today, the Prime Minister declared, “The Labour Party has a process for challenging a leader and that has not been triggered. The country expects us to get on with governing. That is what I am doing and what we must do as a Cabinet.”
As is the way these days, those conspiring to take down Keir Starmer took to social media to drum up support.
If Starmer quits, the UK would have had seven Prime Ministers in the last six years ( Cameron, May, Johnson, Truss, Sunak, Starmer). Absolutely incredible and an indictment on the chaos roiling British politics.
The Labour Party has 403 M.P.s in the House of Commons, with a 165 working majority. With this in mind, Starmer can repel the rebels.
Politics is an ugly business, and one never knows who truly has one’s back. Jess Phillips. Mitta Fahnbulleh, Zubi Ahmed, Shabana Mahmoud, Wes Streeting, Angela Rayner and Andy Burnham want Starmer gone.
It took the Labour Party 14 years to get into this unassailable position, and it would be incredulous if they lost it in less than two years because of infighting.
Starmer must hold his nerve, put together a good team and turn the country around. He must also vanquish Nigel Farage and his Reform Party once and for all.
If Starmer were to be brought down, who would replace him? The candidates mentioned are all lightweights with no senior government experience.
Rayner? No! Lammy? No! Streeting? No! Reeves? No!
The British public will not buy into a lurch to the left. The markets would go into free fall if Starmer goes anytime soon.
With military conflicts on two continents, an energy crisis, geopolitical instability, the U.K. economy in the doldrums, this is no time to put a novice behind the wheel.
Last year, Andy Dunham said the UK should not be ‘in hock’ to bond markets and said he would borrow to build council houses and upgrade the country’s infrastructure.
Starmer must hold his nerve. The country voted for the Labour Party to lead the country and that responsibility is his. Those wanting him out have yet to display courage and plunge the blade into him but they are threatening.
Yes, Labour took a battering in the local government election. It was a wake up call and Labour must now start delivering.
