Mental illness is real, and so real that the conversations have reached the stage at Johnny’s Place.

Undercover Craziness, a play by DREDZ Productions, is uncovering the truth behind mental illness, trauma, survival, and humanity in Jamaica — and the emotions are raw and real.

The gripping, emotional, and thought-provoking theatrical experience, written and directed by Rashiem Shepherd, is set against the backdrop of life on the streets of Kingston.

Undercover Craziness follows a group of ‘homeless’ individuals whose “madness” slowly reveals deeper truths about trauma, heartbreak, war, loss, and mental health — blending comedy, social commentary, music, and powerful performances. The play aims to challenge its audience to rethink how society views the mentally ill and marginalised.

The play opened at Johnny’s Place on Saturday, May 9 and has continued with performances on Saturdays at 8:00 pm and Sundays at 5 pm, until the end of the month. The play closes on Saturday, May 30, with a special benefit performance for children in state care in partnership with Heard Your Cry Limited.

“We’re inviting media houses, journalists, culture critics, bloggers, and influencers to witness what audiences are already calling powerful, thought-provoking, and unforgettable — a gripping Jamaican story that explores mental illness, trauma, survival, and the thin line between sanity and society. Filled with raw emotion, humour, music, and social truth, Undercover Craziness is more than a play — it’s a conversation Jamaica needs to have,” Shepherd shared.

DREDZ Productions is also known for Redemption.
