After a long day at work, many people tend to feel drained regardless of how many hours they’ve worked. This is normal, especially after a long or stressful day. What isn’t normal is chronic, exhaustion that hampers your daily routine.

Stress and burnout can impact your mental and physical health in several ways, which is why it is important to find time for interests and hobbies to quell these feelings before they get worse.

Even just taking a relaxing shower can relieve some of the fatigue experienced during work hours. Adding a few drops of essential oils or your favourite fragrant body wash is one of the simplest ways to unwind after a long day.

After a brief shower, journaling can be beneficial when coping with stress or just recounting the events of the day. Expressing your thoughts and feelings allows for self-reflection and exploration of one’s sense of self.

A 2021 study by the University of Mannheim, found that journaling is an effective way to foster and promote self-esteem, increase motivation, self-awareness and achieve mindfulness.

Relieve work-related stress with activities you find fulfilling or fun. Simple acts like listening to music, and playing your favourite games can improve your mood in the smallest ways, expressing yourself through creative outlets like drawing, painting, photography, etc.

These activities stimulate brain activity and improve cognitive functions such as memory, concentration, and critical thinking. Completing a creative project no matter how trivial it may seem provides a feeling of accomplishment and boosts your self-esteem.

An unpopular tip for relaxing may be to start relaxing your commute from the office to home. Finding ways to enjoy the journey home reduces negative feelings during work hours. One common way to do this is by listening to music, those who take public transportation have more flexibility as they can play mobile games, and puzzles or start reading books they’ve been putting off.

The most appealing tip for decompressing after work would be to simply do nothing.

Scheduling downtime can give your body and mind some well-needed rest. Setting aside 7 to 10 minutes to just relax and lie down can revive your mental focus and productivity for the next day.

Everyone needs a post-work routine to fall into. Whether watching a movie or blasting your favourite songs from the radio to lift your spirits, establishing habits that focus on a balanced routine promotes relaxation and stress reduction.

These tips will help you transition smoothly from work mode to chill mode, ensuring a more restful and fulfilling end to your day.
