An investigation has been launched into an incident in which at least 15 persons were injured when an amusement park ride collapsed in Mohali, India yesterday (September 4).

As previously reported by Our Today, the injuries occurred when the spinning wheel ride plummeted 50 feet to the ground.

The incident took place during an ongoing fete at Dussehra Ground in Phase-8.

Reports are that three men and two women were admitted at the Phase-6 Civil Hospital and Fortis Hospital for head and neck injuries after the fall.

According to the Hindustan Times, Mohali Deputy Commissioner Amit Talwar is currently investigating the matter and ‘strict action will be taken against the guilty’.

The ride is owned by Jaipur-based Mukesh Sharma.

One of the organisers of the festival, Sunny Singh, told the Hindustan Times they had operated the ride many times before but “this has never happened”.

The fete, named ‘London Bridge’, was supposed to end on August 31 but had been extended until September 11.

Given the incident, the ride has been shut down.
