
The University of the West Indies (UWI) and the Caribbean Development Bank (CDB) announced
yesterday (February 6) the launch of their landmark digital transformation project, aimed at consolidating and integrating the university’s geographically dispersed operations.
According to the UWI Vice Chancellor Sir Hillary Beckles, “this is about the impact that digital technologies will have on our core business, teaching, learning, research and efficiencies.
He added that “as the UWI turns 75 this initiative will improve our service delivery drive our strategic plan, improving the quality of our teaching and learning, support student innovation, and position the UWI as the epicenter of Caribbean digital transformation knowledge and expertise.”
This ambitious project, aimed at strengthening the university’s institutional resilience, operational efficiency, and global competitiveness, will contribute to the following outcomes:

• Expanded and upgraded technology platforms for teaching and learning
• Digital processes for increased efficiency and improved student experience
• Seamless collaboration within and across campuses
• Improved collaborative online service delivery across the UWI-verse
• Infrastructure upgrade and migration to the cloud for business continuity and digital resilience
Professor Lloyd Waller, the Digital Transformation Lead at the University and the Project Coordinator, expressed his excitement about the project.
“This project is a significant step towards advancing the University’s digital transformation journey, enabling it to better serve its students, staff, and stakeholders through the implementation of cutting-edge technologies and innovative solutions,” said Waller.
The launch was a hybrid event was attended by UWI staff, the private sector, governments and
other stakeholders
