UWI student suspected to have committed suicide identified

A University of the West Indies (UWI) student who was reportedly found dead by her roommate on Thursday morning, in what is suspected to be a case of suicide, has been identified.

She is identified as 20-year-old Victoria Brown Hanley. She was a student from the Faculty of the Social Sciences studying marketing and residing in the George Alleyne Hall.

Commanding officer for Area Four Police, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Michael Phipps, says law enforcement is interested in securing CCTV footage from the dorm

It’s reported that Hanley’s body was found by her roommate sometime after 6 am.

Preliminary reports suggest she may have taken her own life. ACP Phipps says a post-mortem is expected to be done soon.

Investigations are ongoing.
