UWI student who tortured ex-girlfriend further remanded

Matthew Hyde, the University of the West Indies student accused of torturing his ex-girlfriend in his dorm room at the Mona campus, will once again be remanded into custody until May 3.

Senior Parish Court Judge Paula Blake-Powell said that the court is currently in possession of two updated medical reports for the victim and will be preparing committal proceedings bundles, which will be served on Hyde’s next court date.

Additionally, Hyde’s lawyers are to present the finding of further medical evaluations at his next court hearing.

Reports are that Hyde held his ex-girlfriend captive for three days in his residence at the 138 Student Living facility at the university. He reportedly burnt her with a clothing iron and inflicted multiple blows to her body.

Hyde was charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm, malicious communication and false imprisonment.
