“All hail, the new king in town
(Prince, Partyman)
Young and old, gather round
Black and while, red and green
The funkiest man you’ve ever seen
Tell you what his name is”
He came to Jamaica from India, bringing spiritual upliftment to prisoners, and later became the country’s leading technology personality, founding the fastest-growing group of companies.
Last week, saw the celebration of the tenth anniversary of the Amber Group and a coronation of the ‘King of Tech’ in Jamaica.
Cabinet ministers and business leaders all descended on the AC Marriott Hotel in New Kingston to pay homage to Jamaica’s new business titan.
Backed and fully supported by the Government, Savadia has committed to transforming Jamaica’s technological landscape and implementing AI advancements that will take the country to developed status.
Jamaica has had irrepressible business leaders who have been heralded. ‘Butch’ Stewart in the tourism sector and Michael Lee-Chin in the financial sector spring to mind. Now it has Dushyant Savadia in the technology sector, a first.
Elon Musk’s brand is known, and he is regarded as a technological savant. Dushyant Savadia is going the same route, and he is making his presence felt.
He has made it known that he wants to be a billionaire and the richest man Jamaica has ever seen. In just ten years, he has operations and offices in over 100 countries, and the Amber brand is becoming a leader in its field.
Dushyant Savadia first announced himself when Jamaica was in dire need and called upon a saviour during the COVID-19 pandemic. With the country shutting its doors to prevent the virus from getting in and people unable to travel out, He built an app that monitored who was vaccinated. The Government proclaimed it a big hit; Savadia was on his way.

He introduced himself to Jamaica’s elites and told them of his abilities. He left them with his marker, which impressed many. Some hailed him as the man who could transform Jamaica, and his technological prowess would be a game-changer. Perhaps he could list on the New York Stock Exchange and be the first US$500 billion company from the Caribbean.
Investors were salivating. Here was a man not about finance, tourism, construction and food—familiar paths to wealth—but someone with a unique vision, our very own ‘Elon Musk’ right here in Jamaica..
He went on to build game-changing apps for JPS and Palace Amusements. A slew of companies were launched under the Amber brand, including Amber Pay, Amber Connect, Amber Fuel, Amber Aviation, Amber On Time, and Amber Fundme. A significant stake was acquired in Cliff Hughes’ Nationwide media company, and Savadia has transformed it, taking the lead, finding it a new home with Digicel’s SportsMax studio and turning it from a traditional radio operation into a multi-media AI player, the first of its kind in the Caribbean and in the process becoming the new face and boss of Nationwide.
There’s no question, Dushyant has his hands in a lot of pies right now. The Jamaican Government made him its Ambassador of Technology and said he will point the way.

He has made connections with India’s business community in Jamaica.
High Commissioner of India to Jamaica, Mayank Joshi, said of Savadia: “ Amber Group is steering Jamaica through this technology disruption. I extend my congratulations to Ambassador Dushyant Savadia for this ten years of innovation and growth, which has been a decade of impact. The Amber Group has built a company and legacy that is not only transforming business and industry in Jamaica but is also expanding across regions. It now has 15 product lines in over 100 countries. It embodies the spirit of excellence and entrepreneurship.
“Ten years ago, Amber started as a Jamaican-grown enterprise led by an Indian-born Jamaican entrepreneur. In such a short time, it has not only made a mark in global business but is also a pioneer in giving back to the community. The Indian High Commission has built a great relationship with the Amber Group in promoting India’s cultural and business interests.
“Ambassador Dushyant Savadia represents the best of both the worlds of India and Jamaica—the innovation of India and the dynamism and agility of Jamaica. I’m happy to see that the Amber Group has a strong Indian factor. It has created a stable pathway between our two great nations. India is strong in the BPO and pharmaceutical sectors in Jamaica ,but this is only the beginning. India is looking to be an AI superpower. The era of India is taking a turn. We will become a developed nation by 2047. Jamaica is our close and valued partner in the Caribbean region.”
Savadia has built links and relations with his community here, facilitating business and helping Indian interests. Note the contrast here where so many younger Jamaican business leaders fight among themselves, never seem to get it together, sue each other, cannibalise each other, and are unable to work together as a unit to protect and see to it that their businesses flourish.
How was Savadia able to come to Jamaica and achieve what he has in ten years, where other Jamaicans have not? There is no other notable Jamaican tech leader able to make a significant impact despite the digital age. Why?
Donald Trump, at one time, worked very closely with Elon Musk. The president hailed him as a tech genius who would bring technological advancements that would take the United States to new heights.
Prime Minister Andrew Holness is saying the same thing about Dushyant Savadia. He lauds him and celebrates him. He has made it known that his ambassador has made significant contributions to Jamaica and was there when the country was in crisis.

Here’s what he had to say at the gala reception: “Dushyant Savadia reached out to me during the COVID pandemic and said, ‘I want to help’. There was a certain sense of sincerity in his voice, and I did my due diligence. Minister Kamina Johnson Smith knew him from her commercial life, and we said OK, let’s take a chance.
“I tasked Dushyant to build the JAMCovid App, and he did it within ten days. That’s his level of commitment and dedication. It helped us tremendously in managing the pandemic. I commend Dushyant for that. Since then, I have been collaborating with Dushyant. I have been very impressed with his entrepreneurship. Development happens with an entrepreneur, with a risk taker—someone who is going to take an opportunity and pair it with resources. I dare say that is Dushyant Savadia.
“Dushyant definitely has a vision. I know he wants to be a billionaire, and there is nothing wrong with that. I know your drive is to grow a huge business which is meaningful to the people of the world. It is growth and development with a purpose.

“Dushyant Savadia is not just an ambassador; he is a champion for technology. You are Jamaica’s champion, and it matters not that you originated from Indiayou are Jamaican because you chose Jamaica. I embrace and celebrate his achievements.”
Will Dushyant Savadia list the Amber Group on the Jamaica Stock Exchange?
