Science and Energy Minister Daryl Vaz is offering commendations to the members of the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF), who were responsible for the Thursday (November 23) arrest of three gunmen at the Marcus Garvey Drive base of state owned oil refinery, Petrojam.

Reports are that the suspects were spotted in a car park designated for contractors on the compound that morning.

Detectives from the St Andrew South Police Division carried out an operation where the men were detained, and two illegal guns seized.

“It is concerning that this kind of incident has occurred, but we are grateful that the swift actions of the police resulted in whatever nefarious plans these gunmen had in place being stopped”, said Vaz. “I offer commendations to the members of our police force who intercepted and arrested the gunmen. We need more operations like this”, he continued.

The energy portfolio minister reiterated statements issued by the refinery earlier, indicating that the safety and security of all employees and property is of paramount importance and will continue to monitor the situation closely.
