Transport and Energy Minister Daryl Vaz has expressed relief that the two occupants of a plane that had a mishap at the Tinson Pen Aerodrome in St Andrew on Thursday escaped with their lives.

“It’s tragic that this incident has occurred, and there will be a thorough investigation into what happened, but above all, I am grateful that the persons involved are alive and well with little to no injury,” said Vaz.

Reports are that an aircraft accident, involving a Piper PA-34 Seneca twin-engine, US-registered aircraft occurred at approximately 12:40 pm on Thursday, August 15 at the Tinson Pen Aerodrome.

The aircraft veered off the runway while attempting to land at the aerodrome. There were two persons on board, both of whom were able to exit the aircraft without assistance. They received medical attention and were subsequently released from hospital.

“The JCAA [Jamaica Civil Aviation Authority] have begun their investigations, and we will be able to see what went wrong. If it is that there were any shortcomings on the part of the aerodrome and its operations, they will be addressed post haste,” the Minister said.

A team from the JCAA was dispatched to the site, and the initial investigation has started. Findings from the investigation will be shared once it is concluded.
